Every mistake, explained in plain words.
After a game, Pip walks you through the moments that mattered: what you played, the better move drawn on the board, and why, in a sentence or two. Tap any backgammon word in it to see what it means.
- See your key moments. Big mistakes, small ones and doubling mistakes, each on its own board.
- Watch your chances. Winning chances before and after every move, in percent.
- Try it again. Replay your mistakes with the same dice until the better play is yours.

Move 12 · Big mistake Your chances: 62% → 41%
PipYou left a checker alone where 11 rolls out of 36 could hit it. Moving both checkers together keeps them safe.
One fully coached review a day is free. Premium makes them unlimited.
Fifteen bots. One is just right.
From Mia, who is still learning, to The Cube, the engine at its best. Every bot plays at a measured level, so a win means something. Your first game is against Léo; move up when you’re ready.

The Cube
- Single games or matches
- Play one game for points, or a match to 5 with the doubling cube.
- Practice or for real
- Take moves back while you practise. Real games count toward your error rate, where lower is better.
- Plays offline
- No connection? The same bots play right on your iPhone.
- Play a friend
- Two players, one iPhone: pass it across the table.
Rated matches, on the clock.
Matches to 1, 3 or 5 points with a rating that follows your results. Add friends, see when they’re online, and send a challenge link to anyone.
- Live
- 12 seconds a turn, plus a minute for each point of the match.
- Daily
- A day for each move, or three. The app tells you when it’s your turn.
- Friends
- Find them by username, challenge them in the app, get a notification when they answer.
- Dice you can check
- The server rolls the dice and seals them before the match, so anyone can check them after.
Next: arenas every evening.

A few minutes a day.
A new puzzle every morning and short lessons on the real board. Either one keeps your streak going.

The daily puzzle
One position, one best play. Then Puzzle Rush: 90 seconds, three lives, as many puzzles as you can.
With Premium, train by theme: hitting, blocking, bearing off, doubling and openings.

Lessons
Eleven courses, from your first moves to matches to 5. Each lesson takes about three minutes: try it yourself, see the idea, then find the play. Lessons come back a few days later with new positions, so they stick.
The first three courses are free.
Questions
No ads, no tracking, and never real money: games are played for points.
Is Backgammon Room free?
Yes. Playing the bots, the daily puzzle and streak, the first three courses and one fully coached review a day are free. Premium adds unlimited coaching, the puzzle archive, every course and your full history, with a 7-day free trial.
Do I need an account?
No. You can play as a guest right away. A free account (with Apple, Google or an email address) adds game reviews, your progress, matches to 5, the stronger bots and online play.
Are the dice fair?
Yes, and you can check. Against the bots, your iPhone locks in the dice before the first roll and shows the proof when the game ends. Online, the server seals the dice before the match, and your app checks every roll after it. How the dice work.
Does it work offline?
Yes. When there is no connection the bots play on your iPhone, and the daily puzzle works too. The review of a game waits until you are back online.
How do online ratings work?
With a rating system like chess.com’s. Beat stronger players and your rating rises faster, and it settles as you play more. Live and Daily matches each have their own rating.
Which devices does it run on?
iPhone only for now, with iOS 26 or later.
When does it come out?
There’s no date yet. When the app is on the App Store, the button on this page takes you straight to it.
